Affidavit of Single Status
An Affidavit of Single Status is a document that may be used by any person (called the "affiant") who wants to prove that he is single and unwed at the time he made the statements in the affidavit. This can be used for any of the following purposes:
- Marriage license. To secure a marriage license, an affidavit of single status may be required by the local civil registrar.
- Marriage abroad. To prove single status and non-marriage of the affiant if has an upcoming marriage with a non-Filipino citizen and will marry outside of the Philippines,
- Acquisition or disposition of a property. If the affiant will buy, acquire, sell, donate, or otherwise dispose of a property, an affidavit of single status may be required. This is because, if the affiant is married, he should obtain the consent of his or her spouse to proceed with the transaction. If he is single, then this affidavit may be used to proceed with the transaction.
- Employment abroad. There are certain situations where the employer may require the prospective employee to execute an affidavit of single status as a prerequisite for employment abroad.
This is not an exhaustive list, and the purpose may depend on the particular circumstance that the affiant is in. This document may also be required by various government agencies and private companies in certain transactions and may be used for any other purpose.
